I’ve been using OnX Offroad for just over a year now, and it’s become something I use pretty regularly when I’m planning an off-road trip.
What I like most is being able to look at an area before I go and see all the roads and trails around it. It’s helped me find Forest Service roads and other back roads that I probably wouldn’t have known about otherwise. I also like being able to see property boundaries and trail information while I’m planning a route.
The offline maps are probably one of the most useful features for me. A lot of the places I like to explore don’t have much cell service, so being able to download an area ahead of time means I can still see where I am once I lose reception.
I’ve used it for a number of trips over the past year, and at this point it’s just part of how I plan them. I still like having a physical map with me, but OnX makes it a lot easier to figure out where I want to go and what roads are around an area.
After using it for a little over a year, I’d say it’s been well worth having. It’s not something I use every day, but when I’m heading into an area I’m not familiar with, I definitely want it on my phone.
