I grew up in Western Pennsylvania and have always liked being outside. Camping, driving back roads, wander
ing around places that aren’t on the main highway — that’s always appealed to me. Over the years that interest naturally turned into getting more into off-roading and the idea of overlanding.
I wouldn’t call myself a hardcore overlander. I’ve done some trail driving, I enjoy getting off pavement when I can, and I’m steadily building toward doing more of it in a way that’s practical and sustainable.
Right now I drive a 2019 Chevy Colorado Z71 that I’m gradually setting up to be more capable. It’s still my daily driver, so every modification has to earn its place. I’m in the process of adding a rooftop tent and refining the setup so it stays reliable, comfortable, and ready for longer trips.
I also own a 1991 Chevy full-size Blazer, which is a completely different experience. It’s older, simpler, and reminds you quickly that modern trucks have spoiled us. Having both has given me an appreciation for how capable even relatively stock vehicles can be — and how much thoughtful preparation matters more than flashy upgrades.
For me, this whole thing is about steady progress. Learning what works. Figuring out what doesn’t. Spending time outdoors without overcomplicating it.
That’s really what keeps me interested.
