I drive a 2019 Colorado, and it’s honestly just the right truck for me. I can take it to work, haul gear, tow a trailer, and then head straight to the trails without needing to swap vehicles or prep some overbuilt rig. That balance is why I like it — it works for everyday life, but it’s still capable when I want to get off the pavement.
On the trail, it handles rocks, mud, small streams, and uneven forest roads without drama. I don’t have to obsess over every little thing; it just goes. That lets me actually pay attention to where I’m driving and what’s around me. I like the quiet of the forest, watching the creek cross the trail, noticing the way the light falls through the trees. Those little moments stick with you more than anything else.
I like that it feels capable without being intimidating. It’s not a rock-crawling monster, but it’s enough truck to make a simple forest road feel like an adventure. I can drive it at my own pace, stop when I want, and not feel like I’m under constant pressure to manage every obstacle. That’s part of what makes off-roading enjoyable for me — being out there, not racing or proving anything.
At the same time, it’s just as comfortable in daily life. I don’t feel like I’m compromising on anything when I’m running errands, going to work, or hauling a load. That practicality is huge — I don’t need a second vehicle for the trails, and that makes it easy to actually use the truck for the things I care about.
Sometimes I do wish I had gone with a ZR2 with selectable lockers. That would have been fun and opened up a few more lines on harder trails. But honestly, the Colorado I have hits the sweet spot for me: capable enough for the trails I run, practical for life, and simple enough to just enjoy without stress.
It’s not flashy, it’s not overbuilt, and it doesn’t try to be. It’s just a truck that gets me out there, lets me enjoy the ride, and still fits into the life I live every day. That’s why I like it.
